Robert William Rector, Jr.

Robert William (Bill) Rector, Jr. passed away peacefully in his childhood home he lovingly restored on October 31, 2018. Bill was born to Robert and Lelia Rector on February 8, 1947. He graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1965, then served in the US Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. Bill was honored to be a veteran and always held the utmost respect for those who served. Bill worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad at the Bristol yard for over 30 years. He had a kind heart and loved to grow food in his garden so he could give produce to his friends and neighbors. He loved to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway and spent many happy summers camping at Beartree on Mount Rogers. Bill had a laugh that was contagious, and he loved antiques, old country and gospel music, and Civil War history.
Bill is survived by his sister Patsy Parker (Sidney), brother Jimmy (Jan) and former friend and sister-in-law Mimia Herald. He loved his daughters Holly Morrow (Brett) and Nikki Rector (Kyle Browder), and was married to their mom, Bonnie Rector for many years. His granddaughters Lily Eva Morrow and Laurel Morrow brought him extra pride and joy. He is also survived by nephews Aaron Rector and Jason Rector and nieces Angie Sells and Donna Addington, and great-nephews Jamie Rector, Andrew Rector, Ian Addington, Addison Sells, and Andrew Sells, and great-nieces Ashley Rector and Vivian Rector. He leaves behind his love Carolyn Gentry and her family who also became his. Bill was a good friend to others, but especially loved Scottie Arnold, Mike Woodward, Ronnie Gates, Bill Meade, and honorary sister Cindy Keesee. He will be forever loved and missed.
A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, November 2, 2018 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The Highlands Veterans Honor Guard will conduct the service. Casket bearers will be Jason Rector, Aaron Rector, Matthew Meade, Blake Browder, Kyle Browder, Zac Gentry, and Brett Morrow. Those attending the service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 3:45 PM.
In lieu of flowers, he family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Honor Flight, Inc.; 314 Orleans St.; Johnson City, TN 37601, or honorflightnetn.org.
