Roberta Ann Looney

Roberta Ann Looney, age 73, died peacefully at home on February 3, 2022 after a short illness. She was the daughter of the late Ray and Alta Mae Blankenship. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years David Looney, three brothers, Larry Blankenship, Billy Blankenship, and Sammy Blankenship.

She is survived by three sisters, Mickie Breeding (Harliss), Betty Morefield and Deloras Duty and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends, Nancy and Dewey Hope and the Hope family, Barbara Fletcher, Joyce Mann and Julia Hayter.

Roberta served as Senior Vice President at the First Bank and Trust for 37 years. She was instrumental in growth of the Abingdon office. She had a passion for her co-workers, customers and the community. Her adult life was spent in Abingdon, a town she truly loved. She used her gifts to help many customers and friends over her career. She served on several boards and organizations in the community. She brought light and wisdom into any room she entered.

Roberta attended Abingdon Bible Church for many years. She enjoyed the children’s Christmas programs the most.

Roberta loved to plan short travel trips and was always planning her next adventure with David or friends. She loved the serenity of the beach. She loved sharing a good meal with friends and family. She was a compassionate woman, but strong at the same time. She was the voice of wisdom for many over the years.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 4:00 P.M. at the Farris Funeral Service Chapel at 427 East Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210 with Dr. Paul Bufford officiating. The celebration of life service will conclude in the chapel.

Entombment will follow at a later date at Forest Hills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210. The entombment service will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude Childrens Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 or to the Washington County Virginia Lifesaving Crew at 237 Park Street Southeast, Abingdon, VA 24210.
