Roscoe Raven Moore, age 82, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 26, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was born to the late William Moore and Lydia Surber Moore in Smyth County, Virginia. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Abingdon V.F.W. Post 1994. He attended worship at Highlands Fellowship.
He is also preceded in death by his wife of 43 years Carolyn Smith Moore; one brother, C. D. Moore; and one sister, Mildred Miller.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathy "Debbie" Dolinger of Abingdon, VA and Myrtle Lynn Berry and husband Scott of Abingdon, VA; one son, Bobby Moore and wife Angie of Abingdon, VA; two brothers, Bill Moore and wife Hazel of Hampton, VA and Howard Moore of Hampton, VA; seven grandchildren, Mandy Burden and husband Steve, Samantha Dolinger and husband Cory Ratcliffe, Adam Moore and wife Madelyn, Bradley Moore and wife Katie, Roby Moore, Eppie Moore, and Tanna Hagy and husband Aaron; four great grandchildren, Ethan and Laklynn Burden, Ty Ratcliffe, and Rylie Moore; and extended family, Marty, Susan, and Cade Berry.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Jimmie Davidson officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Military Honors will be presented by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be Marty Berry, Cade Berry, Steve Burden, Aaron Hagy, Cory Ratcliffe, and Ricky Moore. The family would like to offer a special thanks to all who loved and knew him. Donations may be made in his honor to AHS Athletic Dep't c/o Abingdon High School, 705 Thompson Drive, Abingdon, VA 24210.
