Roy Eugene Self, Jr.

Abingdon, Va. - Roy Eugene Self, Jr., age 64, of Abingdon, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born December 31, 1956, to the late Roy Eugene, Sr. and Helen Marie Kestner Self, in Abingdon, Virginia.
Roy worked hard in his career as a diesel mechanic to provide for his family. His children remember him fondly as, not just Father, but “Daddy.” In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles.
In addition to his parents, Roy was also preceded in death by his wife of twenty-five years, Patsy Gail Dunford Self.
He is survived by his son, Roy Eugene Self III and significant other, Rose Overbay; two daughters, Teresa Caudill and husband James, and Lisa Self-Wood and significant other, Charles Clayman; sister, Helen Ann Morrison and husband Bobby; fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a host of cousins, nephews, and nieces; and special family friend, Norma Wright.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at 2:00 PM, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, with Pastor Eddie Turner officiating. In accordance with Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing practices will be implemented, and face masks will be required for attendance.
Grandsons B.J. Turner, Chance Caudill, Josh Hughes, Logan Wood, Benjamin Self, Matthew Clayman, and Xander Self will serve as honorary pallbearers.
