Ruby Ramona Shepherd Statzer

Ruby Ramona Shepherd Statzer went to be with the Lord after 104 years of life on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Grace Health Care. Ruby was born in 1908 to the late Reese and Ester Meadows Shepherd in Lothair, KY and was raised in Appalachia, VA. Mrs. Statzer moved to Abingdon in 1943 and was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church. She and her family were owners of Statzer's Restaurant and Statzer & Stout Cafeteria in Abingdon as well as Statzer's Cafeteria in Bristol for 30 years.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 77 years, Rev. Ernest Statzer.; son, Eddie Statzer; grandson, Kevin Smith; four brothers; and three sisters.
She is survived by daughter Tena and husband Jack Stout of Abingdon, VA; daughter-in-law, Velma Statzer; four grandchildren, Tim Statzer, Ellen Smith, Jack Statzer, and Joe Statzer; and two great-grandchildren, Aaron Statzer and Christy Brooks.
A cryptside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cancer Outreach Foundation, P.O. Box 1263, Abingdon, VA 24212, in Mrs. Statzer's name. Those wishing to express sympathy online may do so by visiting www.farrisfuneralservice.com and signing the online guest register.
