Ruby Violet Kestner Wynegar

Ruby Violet Kestner Wynegar, age 96, passed on Friday, July 12, 2013, at her home on North Fork River Road. Ruby was a resident of Washington County her whole life and was a 1934 graduate of Hamilton High School in Mendota, VA. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Greendale Chapel. Mrs. Wynegar loved gardening, reading, flowers, cooking and canning food. She is well known for having been a foster parent for over 30 years, during which time she gave special care to over 80 children.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Harmon Kestner and Carrie M. Scott; husband of 62 years, Zack R. Wynegar; and five brothers, Nelson, George, Hasque, Dale, and Charlie Harmon Kestner, Jr.
She is survived by sons, John Wynegar and wife Hattie of Abingdon, VA; Jerry Wynegar and wife Linda, of Abingdon, VA; Cleve Ingle and special friend Becky Cox of Abingdon, VA; and Jack Burke and wife Sharon of Meadowview, VA; daughter, Mary Ann Rasnake and husband Danny of Abingdon, VA; special niece and special nephew, Horace Griffin and Barbara Harris; four grandchildren, Lisa Boothe, Shawna Kennedy, Danielle Rasnake and Zack Wynegar; three great-grandchildren, Robbie, Hayley, and Josh; several great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 P.M., Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Jerry Eggers and Rev. Donald Thayer officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 3-5 P.M. Sunday just prior to the service.
A graveside committal service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Robbie Kennedy, Horace Griffin, David King, Jason Nash, Rodney Kestner, and Danny Rasnake serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Mark Handy, Vernon Holmes, Jack Burke, C.D. Kestner, and Cleve Ingle. Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 11:00 A.M.
