Sammy G. Smith, Sr., 65, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at his home. Mr. Smith was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Midway Church of the Living God. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Melster Skeens Smith, and three brothers.
He is survived by two sons, Christopher Smith of Savannah, GA and Sammy (Kayla) Smith, Jr. of Abingdon, VA; three brothers, Ricky D. Smith, Brad Smith and James Smith; four sisters, Debra Stacy, Magdalene Childress, Irene Murphy and Gaye Johnson; two grandchildren, Arianna Smith and Alleah Rose Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Dave Gibson officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Knollkreg Memorial Park with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Military Rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard.
Visitation with the family will be held 6-7 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home just prior to the service.
