Samuel Matthew Sandefur, III passed away on Monday, October 19, 2009, at his home after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife Eula Sandefur and daughter Teresa Ratcliff, both of Glade Spring. He is also survived by his grandson Matthew Davis "Little Man" Holbrook of Meadowview; two special nephews: Samuel Lee Holbrook of Chilhowie, and Charles William Holbrook, wife Virginia and their children, Jessica and C.J., all of Saltville; and his mother-in-law Lena Belle Hess of Chilhowie.
Sam was a member of Chilhowie Baptist Church. He worked at Meadowview Elementary School for 27 years before his retirement from the Washington County School System. Sam was always a very kind and caring person; he believed in helping others. His family was always the most important thing in his life. He will be deeply missed; he was very special to everyone that knew him.
A graveside service for Mr. Sandefur will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at 4 pm at the Rush Creek Cemetery with Rev. John E. Massey, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-3pm Wednesday at The Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Smith, Richard Tuggle, Robert Hess, and Ricky Leonard Hess, Jr.
