Samuel Volney McVey

Samuel Volney McVey, age 97, of Meadowview, Va., passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019, at his home. He was born October 1, 1921, to the late Pruner Harrison McVey and Blanche Barlow McVey. Volney worked for W & L Construction of Chilhowie, Va.
In addition to his parents, Volney was also preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Mae Widener McVey; son, David McVey; daughter-in-law, Sue B. McVey; six brothers; four sisters; and a great grandson, Brandon Cox.
He is survived by his son, Cecil Volney McVey of Chilhowie, Va.; two daughters, Mary Catherine Cox of Meadowview, Va. and Barbara Dean and husband, Clay, of Max Meadows, Va.; daughter-in-law, Betty Ann McVey of New Jersey; brother, Garland McVey of Waynesboro, Va.; two sisters, Frances Parris of Lebanon, Va. and Louise DeBusk of Meadowview, Va.; 14 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery with Alan DeBusk officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from the grandsons. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Debbie Neese, 27193 Camp Comfort Hts., Abingdon, VA 24211.
