Shirley Gentry McCroskey, 75, born April 6, 1936, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2011 in Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was born and raised in Shady Valley, TN but had been a resident of Washington County, VA for over 50 years. She was a graduate of Johnson County High School and Abingdon School of Nursing. She was a retired RN having worked at Bristol Regional Medical Center for 40 years. She was a member of Valley View Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jackie McCroskey; her parents, Clyde Martin and Versie Lula Long Gentry; and sister, Darlene Gentry.
Survivors are her daughter, Thea McCroskey Green and husband, John; grandsons, Adam and Ethan Green all of Bristol; two sisters, Shelby Gray of Richmond, VA and Barbara Gregory and husband, Danny of Meadowview, VA; two brothers, Dean Gentry and wife, Loretta of Elizabethtown, TN and Norman Gentry and wife, Deloris of Shady Valley, TN; brothers-in-law, Fred McCroskey and wife, Patsy, James McCroskey and wife, Rose and Spurgeon McCroskey and wife, Pat; special friend of many years, Larry Mumpower and family; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Kenneth Widner officiating. The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service from 5:00 until 6:45 P.M. Tuesday or at the home of Thea Green, 30 W. Circle Dr., Bristol, VA.
Committal services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Valley View Church Cemetery on Rich Valley Road. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Mumpower, Bobby Hutton, Dave Fleenor, Dan Gregory, Dr. John Green, Dr. Tom Green, James McCroskey, Fred McCroskey, Spurgeon McCroskey and David Counts.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Residents of Gregory Assisted Living, PO Box 400, Meadowview, VA 24361, where she was loved and cared for many months during her illness, or to the Valley View Cemetery Fund, c/o Kenneth Widner, 16274 Powderhorn Dr. Abingdon, VA 24210.
