Shirley Hawthorne Bowers

Shirley "Mamie" Hawthorne Bowers, 81, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA.
She was born August 28, 1930 and was a daughter of the late French L. and Juanita "Dean" Hawthorne. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed by all.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Bowers; brothers, Howard and Jim Hawthorne and son-in-law, Mike St. John.
Survivors include her sons, Edward F. Heath and wife, Betty, Ricky Bowers and wife, Pamela and Brian D. Bowers all of Glade Spring; daughter, Naomi St. John and Jerry Harmon of Chilhowie, VA; brother, Charles "Bud" Hawthorne and wife, Annie of Illinois; grandchildren, Jeremy St. John, Jarrod Bowers, Zachary Bowers and Jenna Bowers; step grandchildren, Suzzie and Joy Trent; great grandchildren, Dylan and Nathan St. John; and step great grandchildren, Amber and Joshua Trent.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Friday, September 16, 2011 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Tim Norris officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday.
Committal services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 10:50 A.M.
