Shirley Temple Ramey Owens

Abingdon, VA – Shirley Temple Ramey Owens, age 79, passed away at her home on Thursday, May 21, 2015. She was born to the late Clarence Ramey and Estel Willis Ramey on January 7, 1936. Shirley worked in the nursing profession for a total of 50 years and was of the Methodist faith. She will always be remembered for her love of travel, her passion for reading, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Shirley was also preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Wayne L. Owens; and brother, Jimmy Ramey. Surviving are two sons, Gary Wayne Owens, Sr. of Marion and Larry Dean Owens and wife Patti of York, PA; daughter, Sue Owens “Susie” Torbett of Abingdon; brother, Perry “Pig” Ramey and wife Audrey of Clinchco; eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter; special cousin, Dexter Ramey of Abingdon; and special friend, Beulah McKemy. A funeral ceremony will be held at the 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2015 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Barbara Farmer officiating. Entombment will follow in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Jeff Keen, Willie McKemy, Aaron Owens, Gary Wayne Owens, Jr., Nicholas Owens, and Hunter Torbett will serve as pallbearers. Dr. Earl Wilson, Dr. Christopher Morris, and all of the wonderful neighbors who have taken care of Shirley through the years will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Saturday, May 23rd at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
