Abingdon, VA Mr. Stanley G. Pierce, age 75, passed away at his home on Monday, June 1, 2015. He was born in Cortland, NY. Stanley was a science teacher with Carthage Central School for many years. Upon retirement, he and his wife Elizabeth moved to Abingdon, VA, where they have lived for 19 years. He received his Bachelors of Science degree from State University of New York, Cortland, and his Masters of Science degree from State University of New York, Oneonta. His love of children was shown by his long time involvement with student athletics, as he coached football and baseball. Stanley was known by his friends for his sense of humor, a trait that served him well in his love of playing bridge and golf. Stanley was predeceased by his parents Orren Pierce and Edna Jones, and sister Darlene. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; son John Pierce of Baltimore, MD; and daughter Elizabeth LeMay and husband Jack of Doylestown, PA; sisters Deborah Gates of Cortland, NY, and Cheryl Weddle and husband Dan of Homer, NY; grandchildren Emilia, Zachery and Evan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who adored him as he adored them. A private family service in New York will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the local hospice of your choice or the V Foundation for Cancer Research, www.jimmyv.org.
