Thomas Henderson Jones, Jr., age 79, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2012 at his home.
Tom was born in Abingdon on May 18, 1932, to the late Thomas H. Jones, Sr. and Hannah Estep Jones. He graduated from Bethel High School in 1950 and attended Roanoke Business College . Tom served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in England for four years. For 30 years, Tom and his wife, Carol lived in Bluff City , TN. Tom taught welding at the Gate City Technical School for several years. He retired from Line Power Manufacturing where he worked as a welding supervisor for over 30 years. Tom enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Minnick DeBord, Dorothy Goodman, and his twin sister, June Smith; one brother, David Jones; and his brother-in-law, Allen Boyd.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Carol Boyd Jones; two daughters, Kara Sue Walls and her husband, Albert of Green Cove, VA, and Kimberly Patrick of Emory; one brother, Jim Jones and his wife, Beatrice of Damascus; two sisters, Vivian Anderson of Abingdon, and Virginia James of PA; three grandchildren, Thomas Jones, Jennifer Walls and Daniel Walls; great-grandsons, Braden Jones and Brenndan Duty; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Tommy Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until the time of the service. The burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens . Pallbearers will be Albert Walls, Daniel Walls, Charlie Maiden, Thomas Jones, Tommy Goodman and Jim Aker. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Boyd and Mack "Sam" Boyd.
The family would like to express their thanks to Home Town Hospice for the compassionate care they have provided during Tom's illness.
