Piney Flats, TN U.S.A.F., SSGT Retired, Thomas Louis Calandros, age 81, passed on Friday, February 5, 2016 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton, TN. Mr. Calandros was born and raised in Martins Ferry, OH to the late Louis and Calliope Calandros. He retired as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force after serving as a Munitions Technician for 20 years during which time he served in Vietnam. Thomas later retired from Roadway Trucking Company after 20 years of employment.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary Estella Clark Calandros; one son, John Thomas Calandros; sister, Anna; two brothers, George and Nick; and son-in-law, Jerry Lynn Rutledge.
He is survived by one son, Michael Louis Calandros and special friend Kathy D. Eggers of Piney Flats, TN; one daughter, Eleanor Calandros Rutledge of Bluff City, TN and special friend Theodore L. Dougherty of Piney Flats, TN; three sisters, Stella, Evelyn, and Jessie; five grandchildren, Thomas Louis Calandros, John Michael Calandros, Mary Catherine Calandros, Megan Calandros, and Alice Rutledge Malone; and three great grandchildren, Katie Calandros, Corey Calandros, and Lydia Hope Malone.
Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2016, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Monday at the funeral home with Dr. Paul Bufford officiating. Entombment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park Mausoleum with Thomas Louis Calandros, II, John Michael Calandros, Michael Louis Calandros, and David Lee Estep serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Clive Brogie Broyles and Harold Wright. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force.
