Tiny Lanie Rasnake Sutherland

Bristol, VA – Tiny Lanie Rasnake Sutherland, age 68, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. God gained an angel when he called Lanie home. She was a member of Higher Ground Fellowship Church and will always be remembered for her deep Christian faith. Lanie never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone who knew her. She was born to the late Tandy Rasnake, Sr. and Mabel Rasnake on December 17, 1945 in Dickenson County, VA. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her mother and father in-law, Willie and Mae Sutherland; three brothers, Mack, Ronnie, and Farrel Rasnake; granddaughter, Ashley Brooke Sutherland; three brothers-in-law, Duane, Earl, and Garland Sutherland; and sister-in-law, Clara Presley. Lanie is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Norman Sutherland; three sons: Tim "Sudsy" Sutherland and wife Donna of Abingdon, VA; Wade Sutherland and wife Sarah; and Tandy Sutherland and wife Lynn all of Bristol, VA; five brothers: Cliff Rasnake and wife Lou of Bristol, TN; Ira Gene Rasnake and wife Katherine of Bristol, VA; Kemp Rasnake and wife Linda of Abingdon, VA; Bence Rasnake of KY; and Tandy Rasnake, Jr. and wife Lee of Abingdon, VA; identical twin sister, Janie Gilbert and husband Danny of Bee, VA; additional sister, Pat Gobble and husband George of Abingdon, VA; two brothers-in-law, Watt Presley and Jearl Sutherland and wife Cara; three sisters-in-law, Carroll Rasnake, Lois Willis, and Penny Sutherland; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Violet Love, Brenda Cunningham, and several others. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Monday, October 27, 2014 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Bence Rasnake and Bro. James Beaver officiating. Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to meet by 3:00 p.m. Monday at Russell Memorial Cemetery in Lebanon, VA. Pallbearers will be Tim, Wade, Tandy, and Thomas Sutherland, O’Brien Williams, and Eric Rasnake. Matthew and Jonathan Sutherland will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help defer the cost of final expenses.
