Tivis Ray Owens, Age 73, of Abingdon, Virginia passed away at Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol Tenn. on September 10, 2011 as a result of injuries sustained in a fall from the roof of his home on May 25, 2011.
He was born in Dickenson County on March 29, 1938 the Son of Ted R. and Lina T. Owens. He was a member of the 1956 graduating class of Haysi High School and attended Hiwassee College. He worked in Automotive, Real Estate and Investment Sales and was a veteran of the U.S. Army
having served in Germany and other parts of the World.
While he was a very private person, he enjoyed life to the fullest and his sense of humor and laughter will be missed by all who knew him.
Tivis was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Connie Phipps of Abingdon Va.; two brothers Ted R. Owens Jr. of Concrete , Washington and Cecil Von Owens of Tilbury, Canada.
Survivors include Sister Betty McClanahan and husband Gerald of Tazewell, Va, Brother Russell U. Owens and wife Dr. Joanna Maiden Owens of Bristol, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews.
At the request of the deceased, No Visitation, Viewing or Funeral service will be held.
A graveside and committal Service will be conducted on Monday September 12, 2011 at 3:00 pm in the Forrest Hills Memory Gardens, Abingdon, Va. by Rev. Dr. Steven Pollard, Pastor Abingdon Baptist Church.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Phil McCall, Wayne Campbell, Teresa Spangler, Maggie Hill, Norman Sutherland, Bradley McClanahan, Dennis Owens, Sharon Leonard, Janet Turley, and Sandra Phipps.
Memorial Contributions may be made in his honor to your Church or Charity of choice.
Those wishing to attend the graveside service should gather at the cemetery on the day and time specified above.
