Vance Elmer Whiteaker

Vance Elmer Whiteaker, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at his home. Mr. Whiteaker was born April 24, 1921 in Washington County, VA to the Late Benjamin C. Whiteaker and Belvia Lockwood Grant Whiteaker. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran and was a custodian for many years at Abingdon Elementary School. Mr. Whiteaker is also preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Lona Edna Whiteaker.
He is survived by his daughter, Jean Malone and husband Dennis of Maple Grove, MN; grandson, David Malone of Brooklyn Park, MN; two great-granddaughters, Ashley and Madison Malone of Brooklyn Park, MN; special friends, Price and Gerald Hayes of Abingdon, VA; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Junior Gobble officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 6:15-7:00 P.M. Friday just prior to the service.
A graveside committal service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Zion Methodist Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Military Rites will be conducted by Highland's Veterans Honor Gaurd.
Family and friends wishing to attend the committal service are asked to convene at the cemetery by 10:00 A.M.
