Verna May Brown

January 2, 1918 — June 9, 2012

Verna May Brown, age 94, passed away at her home on Saturday, June 9, 2012.

She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, VA, born January 2, 1918 to the late John and Gertie Stout Osborne. Mrs. Brown was a lifetime member of Green Spring Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Denton Valley Baptist Church. "Granny Brown" loved bingo and had many bingo buddies.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Clarence Preston Brown; two sons, Steve and John Brown; one daughter, Stella Uselton; two brothers, Paul and Clay Osborne; one sister, Cora Osborne Poe; son-in-law, Kenneth Uselton; daughter-in-law, Teresa Karen Brown; and one great granddaughter, Ashley Brown.

Survivors include three sons: Don Brown of Abingdon; Albert Brown and his wife Betty of Abingdon; and Clifton "Rabbit" Brown of Abingdon; one daughter, Georgia Lewis and her husband Jim of Abingdon; one sister, Annie Hall and her husband Otis of Deer Lodge, TN; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Les Ketron officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery with Marshall Lewis, Sammy Price, Travis Miller, Shaun Brown, Kenny Uselton, Destany Brown, Earl Brown, and Alex Lewis serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, great-grandsons, and members of Green Spring Volunteer Fire Department. Music will be provided by great-grandson Cody Miller.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2012 at the funeral home.



The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Russell County Hospice for the care they provided; they also want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and for the gifts of food.
