Vernon Marshall Comfort

Vernon Marshall Comfort, age 82, of Bristol, Va., passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born to the late Wayne Marshall Comfort and Zelma Fowler Comfort on August 20, 1934, in Hanford, Calif.
In addition to his parents, Vernon was also preceded in death by his wife, Frieda Narshallow Lester Comfort; two brothers, Harley Comfort and Hugh Comfort; two sisters; Waynette DeKay and Marilyn Tarvin; and daughter-in-law, Robin Keene.
He is survived by eight children, Elizabeth Fleming and husband Stephen of Bristol, Va.; Vernon Comfort and wife Susan of Abingdon, Va.; Tim Comfort and wife Stephanie of Morganton, N.C.; Danny Comfort of Grundy, Va.; Russell Comfort and wife Arlene of Grundy, Va.; Ted Comfort and wife Melissa of Jonesborough, Tenn.; Susan Comfort of Bristol, Va.; and Sarah Thwaites of Narrows, Va.; 12 grandchildren; and one great grandson.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service where Vernon’s son, Russell, will officiate. A committal service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday following the funeral service at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, 1183 St. Clairs Creek Rd., Chilhowie, Va. 24319, where pallbearers will be selected from Vernon’s sons. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017, at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.
