Virchel Deel Owens, age 92, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 20, 2013 at Abingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center. She loved creating quilts, painting, and woodworking; as well as, flower and vegetable gardening.
She was born to the late Alex Deel and Margaret Deel in Grundy, VA. Additionally she is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Granville Owens; son, Alex Owens; son-in-law, Steve Wingo; two brothers; five sisters; and two grandsons, Scott Boatwright and Jacob Minton. Mrs. Owens was the last of her generation.
She is survived by two sons, Bryan Owens and wife Sheila of Bristol, VA and Glenn Owens and wife Jerlene of Haysi, VA; three daughters, Jean Wingo, Joyce Boatwright and husband Bob all of Bristol, VA, and Mary Minton of Abingdon, VA; daughter-in-law, Donnita Owens of Abingdon, VA; son-in-law, Jeff Minton of Bristol, VA; nine grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Forest Hills Chapel with Reverend Jerry Eggers and Pastor Doug Findley officiating. A committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday at Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
