Volney "Bob" Street, age 90, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at his home. He was born to the late George Dewey Street and Pearl Williamson Street in Deskins, Virginia on September 21, 1921. He was retired from the Federal Government where he worked as a Machinist and Metal Tradesman at the Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Maryland. He was instrumental in the installation, operation, and repair of the Navy's Catapult and Arresting Gear Test Site at Patuxent River where aircraft are tested before being deployed to aircraft carriers. He was a member of Rosedale Baptist Church.
He is also preceded in death by his son, "Button Boy" Street; wives, Florence Hyde Street, Grace Sexton Street, and Irene Venable Street.
He is survived by his sister, Marie Meekins of Mount Vernon, Ohio, a half-brother, George Street of Centerville, Tennessee; daughters, Martha Jean Fox of Gray, Tennessee, Nancy Street Rogers and husband Paul of Heathsville, Virginia; and step-daughter, Jeannie Brown and husband Ronnie of Abingdon, VA; grandchildren, Mark Fitzgerald and wife Delena, Michael Fitzgerald and wife Hope, Gay Lynn Dye, Jim Taylor, and Walter Taylor and wife Christine; step-grandchildren, Sonya Farris, Nickie Asher, BJ Long, Jenny Manuel, Becky "Boo" Stiltner, and Jessica Smith; great grandchildren, Ethan Fitzgerald, Emily Fitzgerald, Evan Fitzgerald, Nathan Taylor, Joshua Taylor, Miranda Cowan, Kayla Taylor, Justin Taylor, and Mackenzie Taylor; step- great grandchildren, Lindsey Farris, Emily Farris, Mark Farris, Caleb Farris, Madison Asher, Zack Asher, Luke Barr, Xander Brown, Brady Stiltner, Sarah Stiltner, and Tripp Watkins.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Virginia 24210 with Dr. Don Paxton officiating. Entombment will follow in Serenity Chapel Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be Jim Taylor, Walter Taylor, Paul Rogers, Dan Asher, David Farris II, and Dr. Ronnie Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be his beloved cousin, Charlie "EV" Street; and great grandsons, Justin Street Taylor, Nathan Taylor, Joshua Taylor, Derrick Dye, Zack Asher, Mark Farris, Caleb Farris, Xander Brown, Tripp Watson, and Luke Barr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hometown Hospice, 611 Campus Drive, Suite 700, Abingdon, Virginia 24210.
