Walter Dicks, Jr.

Abingdon, VA Mr. Walter “Tweety” Dicks, Jr., age 61 passed away at his home on Monday, January 5, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Born in South Carolina, Walter spent most of his life in Abingdon. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech and worked as a Human Resources Generalist at Bristol Compressors. Walter was a member of the Charles Wesley United Methodist Church. Walter was predeceased by his parents, Walter Dicks, Sr. and Margaret Debose Dicks Swan. He is survived by his wife Rose Dicks; son Operational Specialist 1st Class Byron Dicks, USN (Paula) of Key West, FL; daughters Nekeisha McCracken (Joshua) and Amber Callahan (Tyler), both of Bristol, VA, and Jacqueline Martin of Virginia Beach, VA; brothers Robert (Sandmann) Dicks of Abingdon, Richard (Tissell) Dicks (Patsy) of Virginia Beach, and Kermit Swan of Houston, TX; sister Leslie Swan Charlton of Abingdon, VA; special niece Haley Charlton of Abingdon, VA; nephews Adrain Dicks and Richard Dicks, Jr., both of Virginia Beach, VA; aunts Katie Debose and Harriet Debose both of Abingdon; and special cousin George Pope of Abingdon. A funeral service for Mr. Walter “Tweety” Dicks, Jr. will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Dwayne Mabry, Rev. William Weldon and Rev. Willie Austin officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to special friend Mary Ross for her love and care shown to Tweety and his family during his time of illness.
