Alice Fern Puckett

Alice Fern Puckett was born on February 22, 1957, and departed this world on August 1, 2026. Throughout her sixty-nine years, Alice brought warmth and light to everyone fortunate enough to cross her path, nurturing deep bonds of family, faith, and friendship that will endure in the hearts of those who loved her.

She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Steven Puckett, whose steadfast companionship was a pillar of her life. Together they shared not only the joys and challenges of building a home but also the comfort of quiet moments and everyday happiness. Alice’s legacy continues to flourish through her children, Anthony Dewayne Puckett and Christy Jean Puckett, whose lives are a reflection of her kindness, values, and gentle spirit. Her family circle also includes her cherished daughter-in-law, Nora Klein, Granddaughter Alyssa Klein; her beloved sister, Joyce Ann Smith; her nieces, April Simmons and Tammy Snapp; her nephew, Bobby Smith; and her caring mother-in-law, Letha Jean Minton. Each will carry forward the memory of Alice’s laughter, her encouragement, and her unwavering love.

In her lifetime, Alice grieved the loss of her mother, Gladys Jean Hayzlett, her father, Elbert Ferrell Hayzlett, her brother, Larry Hayzlett, and her sister-in-law, Maryann Hayzlett. Though their absence was deeply felt, Alice held close the bonds of family, treasuring her memories with them and sharing stories that kept their presence alive for the next generation.

Alice’s passions were simple, steadfast, and true to her generous nature. She delighted in the company of both dogs and cats, finding joy in the unconditional affection of her four-legged companions. Her love for gardening transformed each growing season into an act of patience and hope, cultivating beauty with each flower and vegetable tended. Sunlit trips to the beach filled her with a profound sense of peace—each crashing wave a gentle reminder of wonder and renewal.

A woman of faith, Alice’s voice lifted in song at Grace Tabernacle Church, where she generously shared her gift for music and fellowship. Her faith was not just something reserved for Sunday mornings but a living testament woven into the fabric of her daily life, guiding her actions and offering comfort to those around her.

Alice’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and selflessness. Her gentle strength and steadfast devotion extended beyond her immediate family, touching the hearts of all who knew her. Those grieving her passing can take solace in the memory of her radiant smile, her soft laughter, and her example of a life well-lived.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Farris Funeral Service – Main Street Chapel, 427 E Main St, Abingdon, VA 24210. A funeral service celebrating Alice’s life will follow at the same location at 7:00 PM. The committal and burial will be held at Mt. Rose Cemetery, 10069 Crescent Road, Glade Spring, VA 24340, on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Pallbearers will be Bobby Smith, Jamie Simmons, Scotty Snapp, Alex Snapp, Noah Snapp, and Mason Snapp. 

Though Alice Fern Puckett has bid us farewell, the seeds she planted—in gardens, in song, and most of all in love—will continue to grow and blossom for generations to come.
