Abingdon

Angela "Angee" Kay Waites, born on August 22, 1970, in Omaha, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, in Abingdon, Virginia. A beloved teacher at Wallace Middle School, Angee was passionate about her work and cherished her students as if they were her own children. Her dedication to education was evident, and she strived to inspire and nurture a love for learning in every young mind she encountered.

Angee was a graduate of Monroe County High School, where she had notable accomplishments, including working as a lifeguard during her high school years. She continued her education at Troy University, earning a master's degree in education. It was at this institution that she met her husband, Chris. Their connection was undeniable, as Chris worked as a security guard while Angee served as a resident assistant. They shared a life filled with love and adventure, becoming inseparable partners since their marriage in 1995 until his passing in 2008.

In addition to her passion for teaching, Angee found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a deep affection for animals, particularly her horses, dogs, and chickens, which brought her immense happiness at home. Traveling was another cherished pursuit; she relished exploring new places and indulging her adventurous spirit. Angee and Chris particularly enjoyed scuba diving, creating many treasured memories together.

Angee's warmth and liveliness were further complemented by her love of music, as she played in the symphony and found solace in melodies that resonated with her soul. She was devoted to her family and would do anything for her children, Drew and Brenna, showing them the unconditional love that defined her character.

Angee is survived by her children, Drew Waites and Brenna Waites, and her brothers, Jason Trauger (Michelle), Shawn Trauger (Lindsey), and Danny Trauger; and Harlyn and Isla. She is also remembered by her parents, Robert Trauger and Cheryl Murphy Trauger, who provided her with unwavering support throughout her life.
