Antoine Bertrand Anderson was born on August 22, 1959, in Abingdon, Virginia. He was the fifth of eight children born to the late William and Ruth Anderson. Antoine went to William King Elementary School in Abingdon. After his parents moved the family to Silver Spring, Maryland, Antoine attended Tacoma Park Junior High School. The family then moved to Lanham Maryland, where Antoine attended DuVal Senior High School. At DuVal, Antoine was on the track team, the 4 x 100 relay team, and was very good. He loved music and played the trumpet. Antoine established a ton of lifelong friendships with many of his fellow Duvalians, especially those that lived in the neighborhood, affectionately called “the Glendale Lake and Forest Lake Crew”. Among the neighborhood friends was Diane Lee-Aseng, with whom he would reconnect years later and have his two oldest sons, Gabriel and Joshua. Antoine graduated from Duval in 1977. After high school, Antoine attended Morgan State University, where his father was on the faculty, and older brother Anthony (Ricky) attended ahead of him. At Morgan, Antoine developed his affinity for marching bands and joined Morgan’s “Magnificent Marching Machine” as a tuba player. Following in his father‘s footsteps, Antoine took on photography and became quite the photographer, shooting around campus. After Morgan, Antoine lived in Laurel, Maryland, and eventually moved to Cheverly, where he lived for many years. Cheverly was an established family-oriented community and Antoine fit right in. Antoine had an abundance of friends and was constantly meeting new ones. He was quite the charmer and could relate to different people on many levels. He was an absolute social butterfly, with a magnetic personality, and a stylish dresser. Antoine had many interests, including photography and tennis. He was also adventurous and a bit daring. In passing on that spirit, he taught his younger sister, Lisa, to swim by throwing her in the pool! Antoine loved to decorate and entertain at his home. What was his was yours and all were welcome. Antoine loved having cookouts and once hosted the “Our Gang” old neighborhood reunion, where childhood friends came together after many years. It was a huge success.
Antoine was awesome at fixing things and was therefore a tremendous help to his parents and family, especially his sisters. However he could help, he would. He could advise on nearly every topic and was extremely resourceful. He wasn’t above asking for help when he needed it. He loved to try his hand at cooking and would often call his sisters for step-by-step instructions on how to make many of the holiday traditions. He wouldn’t hesitate to call back over and over and over again for the next step in the process and for reminders of what you said previously. Antoine was a boy dad, with three sons, Gabriel, Joshua, and Alijah, the loves of his life. Nothing was more important than his boys and family. Antoine worked for American Pest for 20+ years and went on to work at the Maryland Department of Transportation, where he ended his career. Antoine accepted Christ as his Lord and personal savior. God called him home on September 22, 2025. We truly thank God for his grace and mercy and blessing us with such a wonderful brother, uncle, and father. We will miss him tremendously. Antoine was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruth Anderson, and sister, Faye Valentin.
