Beryl G. Broyles, age 85, of Abingdon, Va. passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born in Old Butler, TN and was raised in Elizabethton. Following his marriage to Nancy, he moved to Abingdon and has lived here for the past 64 years.
He was a man of many talents and could build or fix anything. He always considered himself to be trucker, having driven for Flavor Rich and Dutton-Wagner. He also worked in the Maintenance Department at Virginia Intermont College and in the warehouse of Mid-Mountain Foods. Although his health prevented him from attending church in person, Beryl enjoyed the televised messages from Scott Price at Fellowship Chapel Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Beryl enjoyed piddling with old cars and riding his bike on the Creeper Trail. Words that his family use to describe him include Christian, selfless, helper, fighter, loving and a man of integrity.
He was predeceased by his parents Henry Comer and Nellie Ruth Broyles; infant son Jerry Lynn; brother Fred, Preston, Dewey and infant Gene Broyles.
Beryl is survived by his wife of 64 years Nancy Garrett Broyles; son Tim Broyles of Abingdon; daughter Diann Lester and husband Ted of Abingdon; granddaughter and his “Little Sugar” Mandi Lester of Abingdon; brothers Raymond, Floyd, Conley and Haskell Broyles; sisters Norma Sheffield and Edith Scalf; special niece Joyce Garrett and special nephew Dick Starnes.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Scott Price officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with military rites performed by the Army National Guard and the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, masks will be required and social distancing practiced.
