Betty Lee Dye

Abingdon, VA

Betty Lee Snavely Dye left her earthly home on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, the Lord’s good and faithful servant joined the Angels in Heaven.

She was born on March 1, 1936 in Meadowview, VA to the late Lee and Eva Snavely and married the Rev. Lewis A Dye on August 8, 1953.  Betty was preceded in death by her husband Lewis, children Lewis Dye, Jr, Debra Dye, Freddie Dye and daughter in law Kim Dye. Betty’s brothers Frank and Sam Snavely also preceded her in death.

Betty is survived by her daughter and son in law Freda and Tim Pickle.  She was lovingly cared for by Freda and Tim with whom she lived with for the past 16 years.  Also surviving her are grandchildren Claire, Jacob and Josh Devor all of Richmond, VA , and Shadi Awwad of Florida. Great grandchildren, Kennedy Devor, Maddy Devor, Nolan Devor, Frazer Devor, Thomas Devor, Teague Devor, Sarah Awwad, Selina Awwad, and Elijah Awwad.  She is survived by sisters Gay Farmer, Marie (John), Yeatts, Abingdon and brother Jack (Betty) Snavely, Meadowview.  Sister-in-Law Frances Snavely, Salem, VA.  Twelve nieces and nephews, thirteen great nieces and nephews, and nine great great nieces and nephews.

Betty a friend to many is survived by special friends Linda Bralley, Karen Harshberger, Patsy Graybeal and the Mt Olivet Baptist Church Ladies Sunday School Class, Beaverdam, VA.

Betty was a life-long member of Mountain View Baptist Church, Meadowview.  She and her husband Lewis served area churches in Washington County for many years. 

A retired Washington County Schools Cafeteria Manager known for her wonderful creative cooking. Betty whose hands were never idle enjoyed in her younger years quilting, gardening and canning but her greatest joy was being a Mother. Betty’s home was always open to family and friends whom she loved to entertain and enjoy laughing with over a cup of coffee or a bite of chocolate.

The family will greet friends and share memories at Farris Funeral Service Main Street Chapel, Abingdon on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 7:00pm. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm., with Freda Pickle and John Yeatts conducting the service.  The graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 11:00 am, at Knollkreg Memorial Park with Rev. Mike Somers conducting the service. Friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 am on Saturday.

Pallbearers are Gary Dye, Caleb Rector, Johnny Snavely, David Somers, Ike Thomas and John Yeatts. Honorary Pallbearers are Tony Brewer, Jeff Davis, Kevin Dye, Jim Lessenberry, Tim Pickle, Mark Yeatts, Jimmy Rector and Steve Williamson.

Special thanks to Dr. Mark Davis, her chemo nurse, Dawn Thomas, and Caris Hospice for the care provided to Betty.
