Betty Louise Barton Mullins

June 12, 1953 — June 3, 2026

Abingodn, VA

Betty Louise Barton Mullins, a devoted Christian, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and respected businesswoman, peacefully went to be with the Lord and her eternal home on June 3, 2026, in Abingdon, Virginia. Born on June 12, 1953, in Berwind, West Virginia, Betty’s life was marked by unwavering faith, a strong commitment to family, and a dedication to serving her community.

Betty was a 1971 graduate of Big Creek High School in War, West Virginia, and furthered her education by earning an Associates Degree in Accounting from the North American School of Bookkeeping and Accounting. Her professional career was both diverse and impactful. She was co-owner of several enterprises including MinChar Coal Company, Rocky Road Leasing Co., Dove Trucking, and Anchor Jewelers. Earlier in her career, Betty served as an employee at Clinch Valley Clinic Hospital in Richlands, VA and Grundy Hospital, in Grundy, VA. Her nurturing spirit extended into education as well, where she worked as a substitute teacher for Hurley Elementary, Hurley Middle, and Hurley High Schools.

Throughout her life, Betty was much more than her professional titles. A devoted stay-at-home mother, she was deeply involved in her children’s lives and education, serving as PTA secretary for over ten years. Her faith guided her daily journey, and she was a loyal member of Spoon Gap Freewill Baptist Church of Abingdon, VA. Betty found joy in reading her Bible, attending church services, exploring estate and yard sales, and spending precious moments with her husband Carl, savoring the beauty of each day together.

Betty is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Carl Mullins; her children, Charlotte Mullins and her fiancé Brad Puckett of Johnson City, TN, and Melinda Combs of Abingdon, VA; and her two cherished grandchildren, Natalie and Bryson Combs of Abingdon, VA. She also leaves behind two sisters, Debbie Tramel and her husband Darrell of Draper, VA, and Dee Duncan and husband Ken of Richmond, VA, as well as a brother, Gerry Barton and his wife Brenda of Hartwell, WV. Her family circle extends to a host of devoted church family and friends who will miss her warmth, humbleness, and generous spirit dearly.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Evans and Alice Barton, and her brother Donald Barton.

Betty's family would like to extend their gratitude to their church family and friends who visited and brought food during Betty's illness.
