Betty Jean Poole

February 27, 1956 — May 9, 2024

Bristol

Betty Jean Poole, lovingly known as Betty or Nana, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024. She was born on February 27, 1956, in Bristol, Virginia to the late James Mann and Dorothy Ann Arden Mann.

Betty graduated from Virginia High School and furthered her education at Virginia Highlands Community College. She dedicated a significant part of her life to Home Nursing, where her compassionate nature touched the lives of many. Betty also worked at Lowe’s for many years, serving those in Virginia and as well as Michigan.

Betty was not only known for her professional dedications, but also her spit-fire attitude, boundless knowledge on endless topics, and the presence as a caretaker to those she loved. Betty enjoyed many things such as cooking meals for others, canning her own food, gardening, and spending time with her best friend her dog, Little Girl. When Betty wasn’t pushing Little Girl in her pink stroller, you could often find her shopping, going out to eat, or crafting.

Betty’s proudest title was Nana. She was the costume designer, first car in the pick-up line, lunch date, and confidant to her granddaughters, Annabelle, and Abigail. She attended every school and sporting event for her granddaughters, nieces, and nephews. Betty never met a stranger and she always let everyone know how proud she was of her granddaughters.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Claude Arden.

Betty is survived by her granddaughters Annabelle and Abigail Leonard, her daughters Dionne Kennedy and Wendy Renee Leonard-Edwards, her brother Jim Mann, her sister Becky Griffith, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Little Girl.
