Betty Sue Sparks, age 86, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023, at her residence in Abingdon, VA. She was born in Charleston, West Virginia to the late James Lawrence and Nellie Gretchen Miller Lawrence on March 3, 1937. She was a member of the Green Spring Presbyterian Church in Abingdon. Betty loved spending time outdoors working in her garden tending her roses, but above all she loved spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Sparks and her son, Randy Sparks.
Survivors include her two daughters, Kathy Johnson (Dennis) and Julie Sparks; three grandchildren, Patrick Johnson, April Johnson and Kristin Johnson and two great grandchildren, Shelby and Lucas Johnson.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Green Spring Presbyterian Church - 22007 Green Spring Church Road, Abingdon, VA 24211 with Pastor Deidra Crosby officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave, Fl.17, Chicago, IL 60601.
