Billie Wilson Brooks passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Brumley Gap, Virginia, on February 16, 1935, to Frank and Nora Brooks. He graduated from Valley Institute High School in 1953 and immediately joined the Army. He was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, where he served in the Special Forces unit. Upon leaving the Army, he went to work in construction for several years. He then became a truck driver for Mason Dixon Trucking Company in Kingsport, Tennessee. After his truck driving career, he moved into management with RSV Trucking. There, he served as the manager to the truck drivers and maintenance shop. He retired from RSV in 2014.
Billie is survived by his lovely and dedicated wife of 67 years, Betty Jean Brooks; son, Bill Brooks (Dana), of College Grove, Tennessee; daughter, Tonya Brooks Hunt, of Spring Hill, Tennessee; grandchildren, Blake Brooks (Jess), Carmen Brooks, and Dalton Hunt (Abbey).
Billie was a beloved member of his community, where he served on the Washington County School Board for over 38 years. He was recognized many times by the Virginia Association of School Boards for his dedicated service to public education. He was John S. Battle High School's number one fan for many decades. He was a member of the Jericho Shrine Temple in Blountville, Tennessee, where he dedicated time to aiding children who needed care at the Shriners Children's Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina. Additionally, he served in the Jericho Motor Patrol for many years. Billie was a member of State Street Church of Christ in Bristol, Virginia, for over 60 years, where he served in several lay leadership positions at the congregation.
A memorial service for family members only will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Shriners Children's Hospital. Local donations may be sent to Jericho Temple at 1100 Jericho Dr., Blountville, TN 37617. Contributions can also be made online at LoveShriners.org.
