Billy Wayne Brown

April 30, 1946 — March 25, 2024

Abingdon, VA

Billy Wayne Brown, affectionately known as Bill, was a remarkable man whose journey on this earth touched the lives of many. He was born in Richlands, VA, on April 30, 1946, to the late John Oscar Brown and Irene Young Brown and peacefully passed away on March 25, 2024, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke.

Bill's life was filled with love and dedication to his family. He graduated from Richlands High School in 1964 and went on to become a proud serviceman of the United States Marines Corps, serving his country in the Vietnam War before receiving an honorable discharge after four years of service.

One of Bill's proudest accomplishments was his unwavering faith in the Lord. Those he loved on this earth were second only to his Lord and Savior as Bill gave his life to the Lord at a young age and truly continued to grow in his image each and every day. He was a proud member of the Macedonia Church of Christ in Abingdon, VA.

Bill's warm and loving personality shone brightly through his roles as a husband, father, and grandfather. He married the love of his life, Tammy Denise McClanahan Brown, on November 25, 1995. Together they shared a bond that inspired all who knew them.

In his free time, Bill found solace in nature as an avid fisherman. He cherished moments spent at South Holston Lake with Tammy, despite her always managing to outfish him - a fact that brought them both endless joy.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Brown brother-in-law, George Baldwin and nephew, Herman Brown.

Bill will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Tammy Denise Brown; his son Scotty Brown; his daughters Lindsay Starnes (Jeff Starnes) and Larissa Puriefoy (Devon Puriefoy); his sisters Janet Brown and Regina Baldwin; his brother Harold Brown (Barbara Brown); grandchildren, nieces and nephews, Cody Brown, Nicole Brown, Madison Hackney, Racheal Lester, Ryleigh Starnes, Evan Starnes, Sonny Puriefoy, Easton Starnes, Roman Puriefoy, Jameson Starnes, Casen Starnes, expected grandchild he so looked forward to meeting, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A visitation to honor Bill's life will be held at Farris Funeral Service – Main Street Chapel in Abingdon on Friday, March 29, 2024 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 1:00 pm with Minister Ronnie Musick officiating. The entombment will follow at the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Cody Brown, Dwayne Keen, Earl Ward, Terry Belcher, Jeff Starnes, Robbie Meadows, Devon Puriefoy, and Bo McClanahan.
