Bobby Gene Church

Abingdon, VA – Bobby Gene Church, age 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at his home. Bobby was a graduate of Grundy High School and was a proud U.S. Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War. Bobby was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and a man of God who served faithfully as a member of Macedonia Church of Christ. He worked as a coal miner for over 43 years and enjoyed hunting, fishing, doing things outdoors, and loved to mow his yard twice a week.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Gallie and Flora Ward Church; brother, Jackie Church; and sister, Ruth Stacy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carolyn Kay Ratliff Church; his two children, Matthew Church and wife Pam, and Tammy Ramey and husband Gary; three brothers, Jimmy Church and wife Tippy, Danny Church and wife Barbara, and David Church; four grandchildren, Gary Cooper and wife Kelly, Erica Christian and husband Mikey, Canaan Ramey, and Kasie Church and fiancée Jacob Grizzle; three great grandchildren, Ava Cooper, Kayden Christian, and Kynzlee Christian; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2025, in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. with Minister Don Henegar officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia Army National Guard. Interment will be privately held in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
