Carl V. Smith

Carl V. Smith, age 95, went home to be with the Lord on January 18, 2023, at Abingdon Health and Rehab Center. He was born November 23, 1927, in Patrick County, VA, to the late Jessie Taylor Smith and Virginia Harriet Smith.

Early Wednesday morning Jesus asked Carl to come see the most beautiful woodland and forest ever, and spend the day with Him. Excitedly, Carl went instantly to be with Jesus!

Carl was a successful business man in the timber industry, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and Christian. He and Zettie are faithful members of Antioch Baptist Church, Bristol VA.

He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Zettie Marie Smith; three sons, Mickey Smith (Jo Zimmerman), Rick Smith, Mark Smith; two grandchildren, Alicia Kestner (Jeff), Ashley Stiltner (Danielle), four great-grandchildren, Caleb Boyd, Landon Boyd, Jaden Stiltner, Kaylee Stiltner; one brother, Marvin Smith; one sister, Linda Nelson (Dewey); several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Ruby Goad (Lloyd), Glenn Smith (Mary), Francis Joyce (Lawrence); and sister-in-law Maxie Smith.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Farris Funeral Service, Main Street location. The funeral will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Brad Davis officiating. The burial will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11:00 am, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Military honors will be provided by Highlands Honor Guard and Virginia Military Honors. Those wishing to be in the funeral procession, please be at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be friends and family.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the Carl’s caregivers: Ashley Stiltner, Tammy Wagner, Dwayne Duffield, Aretta Myers, Mary Kirk, Eva Jackson and the entire staff of Abingdon Health & Rehab Center.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 190 Salem Drive, Bristol, VA 24201.
