Jonesville, VA - Karla Keel Parks, age 59, passed away in the evening hours of Monday, March 6, 2023. She was born on Wednesday, October 9, 1963, in Pennington Gap, Virginia.
Karla lived life on her own terms and was a free spirit. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, caring for her cats, going to the beach, spending time at home and listening to classic rock and going to concerts. Some of her favorite bands included Fleetwood Mac, Motley Crue, Poison, Jim Morrison and many others. Karla was a 1982 graduate of Jonesville High School and always looked forward to high school reunions with her fellow classmates. In the community she often signed up to be a poll worker for the Lee County Election Commission and had previously worked for The Omni Netherland Plaza in Cincinnati, Ohio and as an apartment manager in California. She always tried to make difficult situations easier with a funny story paired with her infectious laugh and smile. Her passing leaves a void in our heart that cannot be filled.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Elsie Keel; grandparents, Maliteen and Onis Kiser, Mae and Carl Keel; aunt, Carlene Spivey; three uncles, Walter Keel, George Keel and Ken Crabtree. She is survived by her loving family, Scott Keel (Robert), Jason Long(Kristy), Eric Long(Paige), David Spivey, Angie Reese, Dusty Reese, Ashley Hicks Harvell, Remington Coghill, Aurora Long, Brandon Kirk, Bruce Spivey, Lucas Spivey, Sue Crabtree, Roger Spivey, a host of cousins, friends and extended family members, special friends Kathleen Padgett, Betty Hines Crusenberry, Robin Drake Thompson, Robert Coffee, Robert Cody, Bob Taylor.
Visitation for Karla will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Pennington Gap, 41880 E Morgan Ave, Pennington Gap, VA 24277 and again on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at which time a Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be conducted from the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Gardens in the garden of Eternal Life,1986 Hickory Circle Road, Pennington Gap, VA, 24277.
