Charles Henry Grady, age 90, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at NHC Bristol. He was born on August 21, 1933, in Washington County, VA, and was one of thirteen children born to the late John Clinton Grady and Delia Maybell Johnson Grady. Charles will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Charles worked for over 20 years at Ben Franklin before going to work at Westinghouse. He later worked for Huff Cook/Settlers Life Insurance Company in Bristol. In addition to his successful career, he bravely served in the United States Army as Corporal, demonstrating his commitment and love for his country.
Aside from his professional accomplishments, Charles had a passion for gardening and enjoyed growing strawberries, watching wildlife all of which brought him joy throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by the love of his life Jean Grady. They were happily married for 53 years and loved being “SnowBirds”.
Charles leaves behind a loving family including his daughters Lisa Walden and husband Joe Walden, Natalie Grady and Nancy Stallard, Kimberly Fleenor and husband Doug Fleenor. He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Chelsie Mullins and Zeb Walden, as well as his great-grandchild Brooklyn Walden. Additionally, he is survived by his siblings and several nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory forever.
A graveside service to honor and remember him will be held at 2:00 pm on April 27, 2024, at Knollkreg Memorial Park in Abingdon, VA. Military honors will be provided by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Army National Guard Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Joe Walden, Zeb Walden, Corbin Nash, Lloyd "Gil" Walden, Glen Cunningham and Cody Stallard.
In every role he took on - as a loving family member, a hardworking employee, a dedicated serviceman, and a passionate gardener - Charles Henry Grady made an indelible mark on those around him. May his legacy of kindness and perseverance live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
