Charlie Evans Street

Abingdon, VA – Charlie Evans Street, born June 2, 1922, and 103 years of age, passed on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Commonwealth Senior Living. Charlie was a native of Buchanan County, VA and had lived in Abingdon for the past 46 years. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran and served in the Battle of Guadalcanal during WWII. His primary purpose in life was to provide and care for his family by working as a coal miner for 35 years. He never deviated from this mission. He unselfishly and without complaint devoted his life to his family. After retirement, he loved being outdoors working in his yard and garden. Charlie was a devoted Christian and member of Trigg Street Church of God.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Dorothy Mae Street, and his parents, Rit and Lou Arms Street. Charlie is survived by his three daughters, Brenda Street and Betty Jo Street of Abingdon, VA, and his beloved canine daughter “Mandy”!

Visitation with the family will be held 1-2 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2025, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with very special friends and brothers in Christ Bobby Enscore, Charlie Sullivan, Barry Compton, and Larry Shortridge officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Military rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia Army National Guard. Barry Compton, Larry Shortridge, Jerry Shortridge, Jack McClanahan, Chester Shortridge, and Bobby Enscore will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tolbert White and Charlie Sullivan.

Betty Jo, Brenda, and Mandy send their love and gratitude to the staff at Commonwealth Senior Living who became their family of the heart. They not only embraced our dad with their love, devotion, and caring, but also made sure his daughters were cared for, especially “Miss Mandy”.
