Bristol, VA – Dallas Brown Cassell, Jr., age 78, passed on Thursday, July 24, 2025, peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. Dallas was a graduate of Marion Senior High School and attended Virginia Highlands and Wytheville Community Colleges. He was a proud veteran having served his country in the United States Air Force.
Dallas was a senior communications engineer for 40 years with United Telephone, Sprint, and later Century Link. He was an avid HAM radio operator, call sign KD4CCO, and former president of Mountain Empire Amateur Radio Society. Dallas was also a lifetime member of MEARS and Bristol Amateur Radio Club. He was a car and electronic enthusiast, enjoyed camping, car shows, and traveling.
Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas Brown Cassell, Sr. and Lizzie Haga Cassell; brothers, Roger Lee Cassell and David “Rusty” Cassell; and stepmother, Ruby Cassell. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Donna Jean Sexton Cassell; son, Roger Cassell and wife Teresa; sister, Vickie Arbogast; grandchildren, Matthew Cassell, Grace Cassell; step grandchildren, Elizabeth Hall, and Justin Harvey; three step great grandchildren; special cousin who he considered a sister, Judy Cassell; and several other respected cousins.
Visitation with the family will be held 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2025, in Rock Hill Independent Baptist Church, 184 Johnson Chapel Rd, Bristol, TN 37620. Memorial services will follow with Preachers Darryl Fritz, Corey Brooks, and Butch Abett officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Air Force.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Tamara Musgrave and all the staff at Ballad Cancer Center, Dr. Matthew Gestaut and staff of Bristol Radiation Oncology Center, Melissa Broome and staff of Palliative Medicine, Caris Hospice of Abingdon, Cornerstone Caregiving of Johnson City, and the many others who gave Dallas wonderful care. The family sincerely appreciates each of you.
