David Leo Blankenship

Abingdon, VA – David Leo Blankenship, age 70, passed on Sunday, June 1, 2025, in Johnston Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. David was born in Grundy, VA and raised in Mouthcard, KY. He lived in Chicago as a young adult, moved back to Kentucky for several years, then relocated to Abingdon, VA in 1988. David was a truckdriver for over 45 years and enjoyed restoring old cars and raising a garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt McKinley Blankenship and Hazel Irene Grizzle Blankenship; infant sister, Kathy Lynn Blankenship; and brother-in-law, Frank LaGioia.

David is survived by is wife of 43 years, Rebecca Lynn Adams Blankenship; two daughters, Aveeda (Eugene) Walker, and Lydia Blankenship; two sisters, Helen (Dave) Sheeren, and Shirley LaGioia; two grandchildren, Lona and Damien Walker; nephew, Kevin Sheeren; niece, Kathleen (Brandyn) Wakefield; and special neighbor, Hobart Spiva.

Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2025, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
