Derick Chase Wood

Bristol, VA – Derick Chase Wood, age 38, passed on Friday, June 17, 2022. Derick was a 2002 graduate of J.J. Kelly High School in Wise, VA where he won 2 VHSL State Tennis Singles Championships as well as a VHSL State Tennis Doubles Championship with his longtime childhood best friend, Adam Dotson. He also competed at the State level in VHSL Wrestling. He later was a graduate of the University of Virginia at Wise and Nashville Auto Diesel College. Derick enjoyed playing tennis, hunting, camping and anything mechanical.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William Roscoe “Shine” Bowers, and Virginia Rose “Gin” Haga Bowers, and uncle, Dale Bowers.

He is survived by his parents, Danny and Phyllis Wood of Bristol, VA; sister, Dera Leigh Stalnaker and husband Nate of Bristol, TN; nieces and nephew, Averie Kate Stalnaker, Mayleigh Brooke Stalnaker, and Cannon James Stalnaker; paternal grandparents, Ernest Lee and Mary Alice Wood of Wise, VA; aunts and uncles, Guy Bowers and wife Betty, Roger Bowers and wife Jeanie, Sharon Rasnake, Sharon Rogers and husband Gary, and Jeff Wood and wife Janie.

Visitation with the family will be held 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2022, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Memorial services will follow at 6:30 p.m. with Rev. Stephen Talbert officiating.
