Dexter Ray, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, dedicated Christian, was born on June 10, 1936, in Buchanon County. His journey in life came to a peaceful close when he went to be with the lord on October 9, 2024, in Johnson City, TN, but his legacy will live on in the hearts those he touched throughout his life.
Throughout his years, Dexter demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his family and faith. He devoted his life to God, grounding his existence in love, humility, and service. His devotion did not go unnoticed, as he inspired those around him with his kind spirit and compassion.
Dexter found joy in the simple pleasures of life—none more so than in his hobbies of hunting and fishing, where he embraced the tranquility of nature. He also had a deep passion for music, particularly playing gospel music. This love for melody resonated in his heart, and through this artistic expression, he shared his faith and joy with others.
In his professional life, Dexter thrived as a machine operator, displaying not only skill but a remarkable work ethic that earned him the respect of his colleagues. His dedication to his job reflected his character—reliable, steadfast, and always ready to lend a helping hand.
Dexter is survived by his loving wife, Marion Ray, who stood beside him through all life’s seasons; his cherished son, Kenneth Ray (Jody); and his adoring grandchildren, Haleigh and Zach Ray. Each of them carries a piece of Dexter within them, holding on to the lessons he imparted and the love he shared. His family will forever treasure the memories made during their time together, the laughter shared, and the values instilled in them.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alexander Ray, and mother, Cosby Ray, whose love and guidance shaped the man he became. He is also preceded in death by nine siblings and several nieces and nephews.
