Donna McNew Spriggs

Donna McNew Spriggs, born on May 20, 1964, in Bristol, Tennessee, passed away on December 23, 2025, in Abingdon, Virginia. A beloved mother, wife, sister, and friend, Donna delighted in spending time with family, friends, and her pets.

Her vivacious spirit extended beyond her workplace; she was a beloved babysitter for friends and family, always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors. Donna's joyful personality and willingness to assist those around her created a lasting impact in the lives she touched.

She proudly graduated from Virginia High School in Bristol, Virginia. For over 20 years, Donna dedicated her professional life to Burger King in Abingdon, where her friendly demeanor and work ethic endeared her to countless customers and colleagues. Her love for animals, particularly dogs, reflected her nurturing spirit. Donna enjoyed spending her leisure time engaged in activities that brought her joy, such as solving jigsaw puzzles, riding 4-wheelers, and deer hunting. These simple pleasures enriched her life and provided her with cherished memories.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Shirley Groves; her first husband, Verlan Dean McNew; and her sister, Lora Jane Childress.

Donna is survived by her husband, Bobby Spriggs; her son, Jonathan McNew and his wife, Alisha; her brother, Michael Groves; three grandsons; one niece and two nephews. Each of them carries forward her legacy of helping others and generosity.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Farris Cremation & Funeral Center – Forest Hills Chapel, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM with Preacher Jimmy Carr officiating. The burial will take place at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA. Pallbearers will be Dave Childress, Timmy Childress, Scott Trogdon, and Jeff Cox.

A life well-lived, Donna McNew Spriggs will be fondly remembered for helping others, her fondness for family and friends, and her engaging spirit. She will be greatly missed and will be remembered within the hearts of those who knew her.
