Doris Wright Buchanan

Doris Wright Buchanan, 87, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017 in Abingdon, Va. after a brief illness. Doris was an Abingdon native and graduate of William King High School. She retired from the Sears Catalogue Store in Abingdon, and she was a longtime member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church. Smiling and active is how friends and family remember her. Her beautiful smile was contagious as she volunteered at Johnston Memorial Hospital, the Food Pantry and as a Life Saving Crew Crewette. Despite having a busy schedule, she always had time to dote over her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Clyde Herbert (C.H.) Buchanan, Jr., parents Dudley B. and Pauline Addison Wright, and son-in-law John Crigger, Jr. Doris is survived by her son Clyde M. (Mickey) Buchanan and wife Andrea of Sterling, Va.; daughters Rebecca B. (Becky) Thompson and husband Roy, and Vickie B. Crigger, both of Abingdon; grandchildren Travis Thompson and wife Amanda, Eric Thompson and wife Jessica, Lyndsey Counts and husband Adam, and Patti Buchanan Coullahan and husband David; great-grandchildren Madelynn Thompson, Colton Thompson, Adryana Counts, Jackson Counts, Abigail Coullahan and Sean Coullahan; and special nephew D.B. Wright, III of Florida.

A graveside service will be held for Doris Wright Buchanan on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Knollkreg Memorial Park with Kent Peterson officiating. Friends attending the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at least 15 minutes before the service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church, 136 E. Main St., Abingdon, VA 24210.
