Dorothy Neese Cannon

Dorothy Gray Neese Cannon, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 29, 2024, at her home in Glade Spring, Va. 

Dorothy was born on January 6, 1930, in Meadowview, Va. She was the youngest girl of eleven children of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Neese, Sr. (Lucille). She graduated from Meadowview High School in 1947 and was recognized as the Salutatorian of her class.

 Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was kind, caring, and an absolute treasure to know. She loved flowers, quilting and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Dorothy was usually among the first to check in on anyone, often with a plate of food as long as her health allowed. She was a lifelong member of Greenfield Baptist Church in Meadowview, Va. 

 In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Cannon; her sisters, Marie Copenhaver, Goldie Copenhaver, Ruby Graybeal, and Vivian Mock; and her brothers, Noel Neese, Carl Neese, Oscar Neese, Arthur B. Neese, Jr., and Everett Neese. 

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Barbara Lowe, and her husband, Ken; sons, Gary Cannon, Danny Cannon, and David Cannon and his wife, Angie; grandchildren, Teresa Anderson (Chris), Kendra Jones (Sid), Makenzie Largen (Chris), and Will Cannon; great-grandchildren, Kristen Jackson (Richard), Katelyn Anderson, and Maggie Jones; and a great-great-granddaughter due to arrive in the spring. She is also survived by her brother, Bernard Neese, brother-in-law Jimmie Yarber, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends Catherine Widener, who took great care of her in her final years and Gail Compton. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Amedysis Home Health and Caris Health Care.

 The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Farris Funeral Service -Main Street Chapel with Pastor Dan Birchfield officiating. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon. The funeral procession will leave the Main Street location at 12:15 pm.

Pallbearers will be Will Cannon, Sid Jones, Chris Largen, Nathan Graybeal, Will Copenhaver and Eric Wohlford. Honorary pallbearers include her nephews. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be mailed to Greenfield Baptist Church 30080 Hawthorne Dr., Meadowview, Va. 24361.
