Douglas Mitchell Skeens

Glade Spring, VA – Douglas Mitchell Skeens, age 81, passed on Sunday, August 27, 2023, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.  Doug was a graduate of Meadowview High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran.  He was an employee of the U.S. Postal Service for 29 years and a clerk at the Emory, VA Post Office.  After retiring from the Postal Service, Doug enjoyed working at Dean’s Bikes in Marion, VA.  He and his wife were members of Glade Spring Baptist Church. Doug was a quiet and humble person who loved the outdoors, bicycling, woodworking, and reading.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessee Henry Skeens and Frances Maude Weaver Skeens.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Brenda Owens Skeens; son, Craig Skeens of Abingdon, VA; daughter, Leigh Ann Skeens-Wilson and husband Frederick of Nashville, TN; beloved granddaughter, Savannah Alice Wilson of Nashville, TN; sisters, Betty Skeens of Emory, VA and Barbara Kirkpatrick and husband Wayne of Crab Orchard, KY; special nephew, Joe Owens; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2023, in Mt. Rose Cemetery with Pastor Chad Johnson officiating.
