Dr. Walter Woods Wolfe, Jr.

Dr. Walter Woods Wolfe, age 87, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023, at his home in Abingdon, VA. He was born on July 3, 1935, to the late Walter and Ruth Clark Wolfe of Parkersburg, WV.

Walter was a graduate of West Virginia University and the Medical College of Virginia. During his life he practiced medicine as a physician in the U.S. Army, also in private practice in Richmond, VA, Detroit, MI, Chattanooga, TN, Bristol, TN, Lebanon, VA and retired in the Southwest Virginia area.

Walter was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Louisa Chew Wolfe, for 41 years. Walter and Louisa raised ten children, had 19 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.  Family and faith were the most important aspects of his life.

Walter was a devout Catholic and member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Abingdon, VA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louisa, and his grandson, Gabriel Neitch.

Survivors include his ten children: Michael Wolfe (Suzanne), Melissa Caudill (James), Ruth Neitch (Tim), Amy Fleenor, Stephanie Talbert (Stephen), John Wolfe, Pat Wolfe (Angela), Mary Wolfe, Homer Wolfe (Angie), and Joey Wolfe, as well as his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 4, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 5, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Abingdon, VA. The committal service will follow at 2:00 pm at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, TN with military rites conducted by D.A.V. Chapter #39 and the Virginia Army National Guard.
