Emory Akers Hill, Jr, a dedicated educator and railroad manager, passed away on October 10, 2023, in Johnson City, TN.  He was born on November 23, 1949, in Saltville, VA to the late Emory Akers Hill, Sr and Aloa Farris Hill. Emory's life was one filled with commitment to his family, friends and career.

After graduating from Patrick Henry High School, Glade Spring, Virginia in 1967, where his father was principal, Emory received his bachelor’s degree from ETSU in 1973. For six years, Emory shared his knowledge and enthusiasm as a teacher at Marion Senior High School.

After his time in the classroom, Emory transitioned into the world of railroad management. For over three decades, he displayed exemplary leadership skills and a strong work ethic. His colleagues admired him for his expertise and ability to navigate complex challenges. Emory's contributions were important and commendable.

Beyond his professional achievements, Emory lived a rich, fulfilling personal life. He found solace and spiritual connection at First Christian Church of Johnson City, TN. His faith served as a guiding light throughout his journey and provided him with strength during times of adversity.

Two of Emory's favorite pastimes were playing golf and riding motorcycles. The green fairways and open roads were places where he could unwind and find joy. Additionally, he was a member of the Unaka Rod and Gun Club, where he enjoyed outdoor activities with his friends.

In addition to his parents, Emory was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Counts Hill.

Emory's unwavering love extended far beyond his professional accomplishments and hobbies; it encompassed his beloved family as well. Left behind to cherish memories of this extraordinary man are his son David Aaron Hill and daughter-in-law Tracy Hill; daughter Laura Elaine Hill Brooks and son-in-law Ryan Brooks; sister Donna Hill LeVine and brother-in-law Joe LeVine; sister Sarah Jane (Jenny) Hill Williams; sister Aloa Lynn Hill Ellis; three granddaughters -Ashleigh Hill, Morgan Hill, and Paige Nemargut, Paige’s husband Curtis Nemargut, a great granddaughter–Violet Nemargut, a great grandson-Luca Nemargut; four nieces and many cousins. Emory's love for family knew no bounds, and he cherished the time spent with them.

A memorial service for Emory Akers Hill, Jr. will be held at Abingdon United Methodist Church, 101 E Main St, Abingdon VA, at 11:00AM on Saturday, November 4, 2023.  The family will received friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 am in the Fellowship Hall. His love for family, friends and business colleagues has had a lasting impact and his legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory serve as a reminder of the power of love and dedication in shaping a meaningful life.
