Freddie Mark Rouse, age 78, passed away on April 23, 2026, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

Born on April 18, 1948, in Glade Spring, Virginia, Freddie lived a life defined by service, dedication, and love for his family and community. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and later devoted many years to law enforcement. Freddie worked with the Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Department, where he held the rank of Lieutenant Detective and was honored as Officer of the Year. He also served as Head of Security at Emory & Henry College and worked at SWVMH.

Freddie was a man who found joy in the simple things—tending to his garden, picking blueberries with his granddaughter, Elbie Blue, and working crossword puzzles were among his favorite pastimes. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his resilience, and the deep love he had for his family. He also had a special bond with his beloved one-eyed cat, Jack.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” Rouse and Lillian Rouse; his sister, Brenda Widner; his brother, Kenny Rouse; and his grandson, Collin Turner.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Wanda Rouse; his daughters, Angie Menchaca and Kelly Fairchild; his grandchildren, Sierra Menchaca-Brothers and her husband, Ryan, Kaitlyn Mowell and her husband, Jeremy, Devin Menchaca, Madison Evans, and Elbie Blue Fairchild; and his great-grandchildren, Aria Quinn and Opie Mowell. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Freddie is further survived by his siblings: Jeff Rouse and his wife, Tammy; Allen Rouse and his wife, Kelli; Dale Rouse and his wife, Jenna; Alice Morley and her husband, Kermit; Judy Lowe and her husband, Dale; Joyce Warren and her husband, Wayne; Pat Williams and her husband, Kenneth; and Tammy McConnell and her husband, Julian.
