Garnett Glen Snodgrass

Garnett Glen Snodgrass, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many of his co-workers and neighbors over the years, gained his heavenly wings and went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 21, 2026. He passed away peacefully at his residence, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.

Garnett was 91 years old. He was employed for over 35 years with Cherokee Construction Company, Nunley’s Service Station, Palmer House Service Station, Steve West Cabs, and Mont Eads Service Station, all of Abingdon, as well as Bill Clark Petroleum of Bristol, VA. He was born in the Tumbling Creek area of Washington County and worked for many farmers while growing up. He lived in the Abingdon area for the majority of his life.

Garnett was preceded in death by his loving wife, Thelma Mae Snodgrass; his parents, David W. Snodgrass and Lucille Collins Snodgrass; his brother, David Ervin Snodgrass and wife Rosalie of Meadowview, VA; his sister, Ellen Louise “Lou” Castle and husband Witmer of Lynchburg, VA; Christen Helton and husband Fred of Meadowview, VA; and Douglas Delano Snodgrass and wife Eloise of Arkansas.

Survivors include his son, Billy (Bill) Snodgrass and wife Diane of Abingdon, VA; his daughter, Dwana Doane and husband Charles (Chuck) of Saltville, VA; and his sister, Phyllis “Renee” Kidd of Glade Spring, VA.

Garnett was blessed with six grandchildren: Bill Snodgrass Jr. and wife Amy, Darrell Snodgrass and wife Katrina, Jessica Reynolds and husband Earl, Jenna Brennan and husband Sean, Justin Barrett and wife Julia, and Robin Miller. He was also blessed with twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at Forest Hills Memory Gardens at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, with Bill Snodgrass Jr., Darrell Snodgrass, Frankie Fulton, Lynn Hall, and Eric Hall serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to arrive at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m.
